Mr R.G. admitted to having brandished a knife, but explained that this had been in self-defence and that his friend had had blood on his face.

M.H. stated that he had not been aware of the knife in the cabinet. Nobody had opened the cabinet door or placed the knife in – or removed it from – the cabinet in his presence.

  On pages 3 and 5 the word "pocket-knife" was replaced by the words "tool, possibly a pocket-knife".    This corrected version of the judgment had not been served on the applicant.

It also stated that the knee was not swollen and the skin of the knee was of a normal colour. It was concluded that the deformation of the applicant's left knee was caused by chronic arthrosis.

In 1999 the applicant filed a request for repossession of his property with the Knin Housing Commission ( Stambena komisija Knin ) (“the Housing Commission”).

They also alleged that they had been intimidated by the police, who had pressurised them into saying that the first applicant and his brother had been carrying knives.

The applicant then swallowed a knife blade 10   cm long, which is still lodged in his stomach today.

The applicant carried a butterfly knife the whole time. He kept the taped knife in a spectacle case on top of his camera in his camera bag, which he carried as hand luggage on the flights.

On 29 January 2001 the Criminal Court heard the accused, who admitted that he had assaulted the applicant with a knife.

The doctor on duty had diagnosed him with chronic instability of the knee, with no swelling or fluid accumulation in the joint.

The applicants are co-owners of a house in Knin, measuring ninety square metres.
