  On 20 July 1995 the applicants, along with ten other prisoners, were taken from their cells to an area of Buca Prison in which they were held before being taken to a hearing at İzmir State Security

  The applicants were committed for trial before the Beauvais Criminal Court and on 26   October 2000 were sentenced respectively to six and four months’ imprisonment, suspended.

They were convicted of defamation on 21 May 2002.
