The application concerns the registration in the birth certificate of the forename of the third applicant, next to which it was noted that it was registered by “choice of given name” ( ονοματοδοσία ). The applicants argued that that note, which was not provided for by law and constituted a general practice of Registry Offices, constituted a violation of their right to freedom of religion, as the choice of given name is implicitly opposed to the name given by christening. They additionally argue that it reveals sensitive personal data, constituting a violation of Article 8 of the Convention. QUESTIONS TO THE PARTIES 1.     Has there been a violation of the applicants’ right to freedom of religion as guaranteed by Article 9 of the Convention as a result of a note on the birth certificate of the third applicant indicating that her forename was registered “by choice of given name”?   2.     Has there been a violation of the applicants’ right to private life as guaranteed by Article 8 of the Convention on account of the above note next to the forename of the third applicant stating that it was registered by “choice of given name”?
