He studied law in Athens and London and at the University of Illinois. From 1975 to 1985 he was a lecturer and subsequently professor at Panteion University in Athens. He was a member of the European Commission of Human Rights from 1987 to 1998. He has been a judge, Section President and Vice-President of the Court since 1   November 1998.   Judge Casadevall was born in 1946 and studied at Madrid University. He has a background as a practising lawyer and was Secretary General of the Andorran Bar from 1984 to 1992 and Chairman of the Bar from 1993 to 1995. He has been a judge of the Court since 1996. He was Section Vice President from 1998 to 2000 and again from 2004 to 2008.   The Court is composed of one judge in respect of each of the 47 States to have ratified the European Convention on Human Rights. Judges work in five Sections from which Chambers of seven judges are constituted. The Court also sits as a Grand Chamber of 17 judges.
