Malta (application no.17056/06) in a public hearing on Thursday 15 October 2009 at 10 a.m. (local time) in the Human Rights Building, Strasbourg.   The press release and the text of the judgment will be available after the hearing on the Court’s Internet site ( http://www.echr.coe.int ).     ****   The applicant, Joseph Micallef, is a Maltese national who lives in Vittoriosa (Malta).   He alleges that his sister, who has since died, did not have a fair hearing in civil proceedings concerning a dispute between neighbours owing to the family ties between the President of the Court of Appeal and the lawyer representing the other party.   In a judgment of 15   January 2008, the Court held, by four votes to three, that there had been a violation of Article 6 §   1 of the Convention.   On 7 July 2008 the case was referred to the Grand Chamber at the Government’s request. A public hearing was held at the Human Rights Building, Strasbourg, on 22 October 2008.     ***   Press contacts Stefano Piedimonte (telephone : 00 33 (0)3 90 21 42 04) or Tracey Turner-Tretz (telephone : 00 33 (0)3 88 41 35 30) Kristina Pencheva-Malinowski (telephone : 00 33 (0)3 88 41 35 70) Céline Menu-Lange (telephone : 00 33 (0)3 90 21 58 77) Frédéric Dolt (telephone : 00 33 (0)3 90 21 53 39) Nina Salomon (telephone : 00 33 (0)3 90 21 49 79)   The European Court of Human Rights was set up in Strasbourg by the Council of Europe Member States in 1959 to deal with alleged violations of the 1950 European Convention on Human Rights.Citations
