He takes up his duties with immediate effect for a five-year term of office.   Mr Fribergh is currently one of the Court’s four Section Registrars, a position he has held since the Court was restructured in November 1998. He was previously Deputy Secretary to the European Commission of Human Rights.   Before joining the Council of Europe (secretariat of the European Commission of Human Rights) in 1981, Mr Fribergh worked in Sweden as an associate judge and judge at the Administrative Court of Appeal in Gothenburg (1976-1978), then as Deputy Secretary to the Governmental Commission against Unnecessary Bureaucracy in the Ministry of Local Government (1978-1979) and then as Deputy Secretary to the Governmental Committee on Administrative Law in the Ministry of Justice (1979-1981).     ***   Further information about the Court can be found on its Internet site ( http://www.echr.coe.int ).   Contacts:   Roderick Liddell (telephone: +00 33 (0)3 88 41 24 92)   Emma Hellyer (telephone: +00 33 (0)3 90 21 42 15)   The European Court of Human Rights was set up in Strasbourg in 1959 to deal with alleged violations of the 1950 European Convention on Human Rights.
