The judgments are final.   Section 4   1)   Gładkowski v. Poland (29697/96 [1] )         Struck out   Władysław Gładkowski, a Polish national, now deceased, complained about the length of the proceedings concerning his claim for compensation for inappropriate medical treatment, invoking Article 6 § 1 (right to a fair trial within a reasonable time) of the European Convention on Human Rights. His case was still pending when he died more than nine years later. The Court struck out Mr Gładkowski’s application after his widow decided not to pursue the case. The judgment exists only in English.   Section 2   2)   Caliendo v. Italy (34437/97)         Violation Art. 6 § 1   Giuseppina Caliendo, an Italian national, complained about the excessive length of the proceedings before the administrative tribunal, concerning a deduction from her salary, which lasted more than five years and five months. The Court found, unanimously, a violation of Article 6 § 1 and awarded her 1,224,000 Italian lire for costs and expenses. The judgment exists only in French.   Section 3   3)   Cloez v. France (41861/98)         Friendly settlement   Alain Cloez, a French national, complained under Article 6 § 1 about the length of the criminal proceedings against him, which lasted nearly seven years and five months. He was acquitted. The case has been struck out following a friendly settlement in which Mr Cloez was given 40,000 French francs for damage. The judgment exists only in French.   The Court’s judgments are accessible on its Internet site ( http://www.echr.coe.int ).   Registry of the European Court of Human Rights F – 67075 Strasbourg Cedex Contacts:   Roderick Liddell (telephone: (0)3 88 41 24 92) or   Emma Hellyer (telephone: (0)3 90 21 42 15) Fax: (0)3 88 41 27 91   The European Court of Human Rights was set up in 1959 in Strasbourg to deal with alleged violations of the 1950 European Convention on Human Rights.
