In their submissions to the police and the courts, the applicants had referred to those protests and to the continued fear they had aroused in them.

The President granted the applicants’ request for their identity not to be disclosed to the public (Rule 47 § 3). They were represented before the Court by Mr B.

Their entreaties to the officers to tell them what was going on were met with the response that their father would tell them.

As they got out of the door they had been told by the security forces to put their hands up and walk towards the security forces.

There is, in my judgment, clear admissible evidence that both witnesses were in fear at the time they made their witness statements to the police.

Then they said that they would take the third applicant’s son with them so as to check his documents through a computer database.

There all of them, including the 90-year old G., were ordered to lie face down on the ground and to pull their shirts over their heads, so they could not see anything.

They also questioned for how long the public care would continue, since that might jeopardise the connection between them and their children.

Handcuffs were used for the 8 men; they were taken to the ship to collect their personal belongings and from there to the airport for their departure.

The applicants and their families then moved to Diyarbakır where they currently live.

The protesters did no block the traffic, or the pavement. They used the nearby public toilet and regularly cleaned the area.
