The Government disputed that the applicant had requested to be present at the hearing, stating that no such request had been included in the case file (see paragraph   9 above).

In letters sent to the Court in September 2014, Mr Aliyev reiterated his complaint about the seizure of the case files. 19.

It took the applicant and his lawyers another six months to study the case-file comprising nineteen volumes, 200-300 pages long each.

Following his arrest, the applicant was kept by plain-clothes police officers for a while in the street while they waited for a police car.

The applicant was kept naked for about two hours. Then he was subjected to a repeated inspection of his anus, during which he apparently lost consciousness.

  It appears from the documents submitted in the case that these bodies based their decisions on the applicant's medical case-file and on other medical documents.

On 24 September 1996 the applicants were arrested and kept in police custody until 3 October 1996. On 24 September both applicants denied having committed the offences.

The applicants took varied steps to obtain the information held on their files from the earliest in 1997, eventually resulting in decisions of the Supreme Administrative Court in 2000.

He was then flown to Turkey, being kept blindfolded for most of the flight.

According to the case file, the applicant’s personal search as well as the search of his vehicle was recorded on video by police. 4.

Between 22 January and 16 February 2001 the applicant was granted access to the case-file.

    The applicant alleged, in particular, that he had been kept in permanently locked cells and had not had ready access to a lavatory while serving his life sentence in prison. 4.

    The internal regulation set out under 3.2 provides that tape recordings are not to be kept and will be immediately erased.

According to the applicant, he was kept in a metal cage during the court hearings.

It appears from the case file that the criminal proceedings are still pending.
